Things to do in Spain

There are few European destinations which are more popular with British holidaymakers than Spain. The fantastic climate, beautiful beaches and slower pace of life really appeal to us Brit’s who are more used to soggy, cold weather than sun, sangria and siestas.

Spain is also a great choice because there is such variety within the country. Whether you’re a beach bum, or a culture vulture, you will always find a place for you in Spain. Below are just a few of the fantastic places and events you should think about visiting when you’re next in Spain.

Alhambra palace

Alhambra palace is one of the biggest tourist destinations for lovers of culture and history. The ‘Red Palace’ can be found in Granada and is one of the oldest monuments in Spain. It’s rich cultural history and the beauty of the surrounding areas makes for an interesting experience for people of all ages.

Tomato Fight!

For those who like a unique adventure when holidaying, La Tomatina is an experience that is sure to impress. The event is basically a large scale, town wide tomato fight! Held in Valencia every August, thousands of people visit this event in order to participate in what is probably the largest food Fight on the planet.

It’ll certainly make for a good holiday story.

Guggenheim Museum

The Guggenheim Museum is a wonderful place which everyone should try to visit at least once in their lifetime. Situated in the city of Bilbao, the Guggenheim is one of the world’s most impressive buildings which will have lovers of architecture beside themselves with joy.

Mezquita Church

Mezquita Church is a beautiful old building which was once a mosque back when Spain was ruled by the Muslims. Due to this fact, it is unlike any other church you are likely to have seen and is a great peace of Arabic architecture in the west.

Semana Santa

Semana Santa takes place in the week leading up to Easter Sunday. It is a wonderful festival which takes place throughout Spain but we suggest you experience it in either Malaga or Seville, where it is legendary.

The festival consists of wonderful displays, much like a carnival and is a great event for all the family.
