Choosing the Right Mattress for You

The right mattress is the key to a good night’s sleep.  Choosing an unsuitable one can lead to exhaustion, anxiety, back pain and illness.  There are a number of different types of mattresses available, each of which has its own benefits.  Take some time to consider in which ways your sleep, and other aspects of your life, could improve, and you’ll be sure to find the right mattress for you.

When you’re shopping for a mattress, you should always test some out before you buy anything.  Test a mattress by lying flat upon it, then lying in your usual sleeping position.  Both should feel comfortable, and there should be no painful pressure points on any part of your body.

The ideal mattress should not too hard or too soft, but it’s up to you to find the density of mattress that you find most comfortable.  If you have been sleeping on an extremely hard or soft mattress though, don’t go too far to the other extreme with your new mattress.  You’ll find that your body will struggle with the transition, and you could suffer from some sleepless nights.

A good mattress should support all the curves of your body.  When you’re lying flat, your spine should still retain its natural curve.  This is particularly important if you suffer from any kind of back or joint pain.  Visco elastic foam mattresses are particular good for this as they mould to every contour of your body.

The nature of visco elastic foam mattresses is also ideal if you have a partner who tosses and turns in the night.  Because they are moulded precisely to your body, they should keep disturbance to a minimum.  Also, sleeping on a super king mattress can reduce the sleep disturbance you feel from your partner.
