Use online CV to get ahead

An online CV gives job hunters a greater chance of securing employment than those posting out paper copies, according to website B to B.

An online resume seen on a site such as LinkedIn gives job hunters a greater chance of being headhunted by a recruitment agency as according to this article, more and more professional agencies are looking to sites such as LinkedIn to find suitable candidates.

At a time when every sector is taking a hit from the economic recession, having an online CV has become even more important.  Uploading your online resume on sites such as LinkedIn and Monster gives a job hunter exposure to a number of agencies making the chances of securing a position even greater.

Likewise, as agencies are also making cuts while still trying to place candidates in suitable jobs, having them uploaded online makes things easier for them.

For instance, agencies can search thousands of CVs by using specific keywords such as skills and previous job titles. This makes hunting down the right candidate quicker and will help the agency fill the position much quicker than say a rival agency working from paper CVs handed in from people.

According to B to B, LinkedIn is a great way to connect with people in a chosen industry. This means that the social media element allows people from specific business groups to get in touch if a suitable position arises for example.

The article also claims that a profile on this site should always be kept up to date with short and relevant information relating to the previous job history.  This should also include a profile picture as it may encourage more people to click on to the profile.

Having an online profile is also a great opportunity to show recommendations from other people the candidate has worked for. These ‘recommended by’ links act as online references which may well prove useful in finding a new position in that specific industry.
