New power tools anger Marvel comic bosses

Power tools including cordless drills have been stirring up a lot of anger in the Marvel Comics team as they are using the ‘Hulk’ brand.
Ohio based power tools manufacturer, Airbase Industries has been using the Hulk brand along with the slogan that the power tools can “unleash the power.”
Marvel is owned by global giant, Disney and is now filing a lawsuit in Ohio District Court against the manufacturer using the Hulk brand name.
Earlier last year, the company was enraged when after opposing an application from Airbase Industries to use the brand name, it was approved by the US Patent and Trademark Office.
As part of its complaint, Marvel claim that the green colour of the company’s new air compressor product is too similar to the green used by the Marvel Hulk logo. It is also claiming that the logos are so similar that consumers will be misled into thinking that they are buying a Marvel authorised product, when in reality this is not the case.
The Disney owned company is now calling for an injunction on the case and is asking for the Airbase Industries trademark to be cancelled. It is also asking to receive all the profits received from selling what it claims to be infringing products.
According to Reuters, this has not been the first time that the ‘Hulk’ brand and trademark has been threatened by other manufacturers. A number of other companies have also had products approved by the US Patent and Trademark Office so this may be one of the reasons that the manufacturer decided to push ahead with using the brand name.
Some of the other companies that sell Hulk goods include a security company that produce Hulk locks. In addition, famous wrestler and reality TV star Hulk Hogan also uses the brand name.
