Beating Identity Fraud

Identity theft is a growing crime all over the world. Whilst more is being done to ensure that people are less likely to get away with it, being vigilant is still the surest way to make sure that you don’t become a victim yourself. A great deal has been said about being safe online and about disposing of important documents securely rather than just leaving them lying around in the bin, but very little has been mentioned about another way that the criminals might choose to target you or your mail box.

Whilst many people have mailboxes cut into their front doors, there are many others that will not, instead choosing to receive their mail in a freestanding or wall mounted box. However, it is not just those without a mail box in the door that need to worry.

Those delivering our post will not always fully push letters through the door meaning that any opportunistic criminal could see letters protruding and potentially make off with some very sensitive information about you and often enough to set about stealing your identity. Likewise, those is shared apartment buildings can find that random people walking into their building have easy access to post, whilst those with freestanding boxes often won’t have a box that is designed for safety, but instead for looks.

There are many safety focused mailboxes on the market both freestanding and wall mounted, along with many far safer ordinary letterboxes being available too. With more and more people trying to keep data safe once they have received it, more and more criminals are looking for weaker mail solutions to steal that information before it even reaches the individual. Whilst the chances of it happening to you might still be fairly low, ensuring you have the right mail system can simply ensure you have the best chance possible of avoiding it altogether.
