Professional video game beta testing is not really that difficult. Believe it or not, you might even go so far as to say that it is an easy job that does NOT require too much effort. All you have to do is put the game in, play through it, write down the game’s problems, then collect a paycheck after you’re all done. Honestly, does that seem like a hard job to you?
Hurdles In The Way…
– You do not have at least 5 years gaming experience. In all seriousness, it’s not necessary to be a video gaming guru who has mastered every game out there. Nevertheless, you do have to have fundamental knowledge of the gaming field and how game creation works. More experience and knowledge you’ve got, the better off you will be.
– You’re not 18. Video game testing is a job, meaning you have to be an adult should you desire to work full time. There are some exceptions to this “rule”, but for the most part, it is unbreakable.
– You don’t have a next-gen system and/or a high-end gaming PC. Having both is best, but either will do. If you’re not up-to-date with gaming technology, you do not stand a chance.
– You don’t have a video game testing resume. No resume, no consideration of any kind, period. Being a beta game tester means being required to do actual work which HAS TO be taken seriously. This isn’t a hobby you do on the weekends.
– You know absolutely nothing of proper grammar. Filling out & filing bug and glitch reports is one of the top duties of a video game beta tester. This means a solid comprehension — and some might even say mastery — of correct grammar is needed. If you cannot write in complete sentences using proper punctuation, then the coders may not understand what you’re talking about or how to find the bugs & glitches you’ve found.
If the 5 things in the above list are not a problem for you, then you are without a doubt a candidate for expert video game beta testing. All that is left for you to do is to start hunting for game testing jobs in your area — and if you know where to look, that won’t take you more than a week or two!
