Becoming a Plus-Sized Model

The fashion world is finally embracing the fact that women come in all shapes and size.  Plus-sized models are an increasing presence on the catwalk, and there are more and more clothing shops and catalogues that are catering for plus-sized women.  Plus-sized modelling is an increasing sector of the modelling industry.  However, it is still relatively small part of the modelling world, and becoming a plus-sized model can be difficult.

Many modelling agencies still look for the traditional model look.  Try to focus on contacting modelling agencies that are known to take on plus-sized models.  There are even some agencies that specialise in plus-sized women.  There’s a good chance that you’ll have to attend a lot of agencies meeting and open auditions, and it could be a long time before you find any work.  Don’t be disheartened if you are rejected for any job – rejection is a big part of the modelling industry.  Just attending auditions is excellent experience.  You’ll start to become recognised by the industry and increase your portfolio.

If you would like an excellent portfolio prior to meeting with modelling agencies, then it can be a good idea to use a professional photographer.  Your portfolio should consist of between 5 to 10 photographs.  They should each be unique and show off your range.  Don’t wear too much make up in your photographs so that the agency can see your natural beauty.

To become a plus-sized model, you should feel happy and confident about your body, and should exude this to the outside world.  You should have good skin and be over 5’7”.  There are plenty of opportunities in the plus-sized modelling world, not only on the catwalk but in the make-up and skincare worlds too.  If you have the correct look, are photogenic and exude confidence, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t succeed.
