Individuals who have taken driving lessons Croydon and elsewhere may be interested in a new competition designed to make new road users safer behind the wheel.
The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) is running a Drive Pledge multimedia competition and the winner will receive a block of Pass Plus driving lessons.
To be in with a chance of success, participants have to record a video of themselves pledging to become a good driver. The videos should be no longer than one minute in length and they should show an awareness of a range of issues, including speed, drink and drugs, mobile phones, seat belts and peer pressure. Those who take part must be aged between 17 and 25.
Commenting on the initiative, GMFRS chair Councillor David Acton said: “The GMFRS Drive Pledge competition is really exciting and a dynamic way to encourage new young drivers to use social media and video to become safer drivers. GMFRS firefighters are called out to many road traffic collisions and statistically newly qualified drivers are more at risk of being involved in an accident in the 12 months after passing their tests.
“The Pass Plus lessons… are a fantastic prize for one lucky winner and could even help to bring the cost of a new driver’s car insurance down.”
Statistically, new drivers are more likely to be involved in accidents on the highways. Indeed, 40 per cent of all killed or seriously injured passengers last year were being driven at night by a newly qualified driver.
It is therefore crucial for individuals who have recently passed their tests to drive with care.
As long as they remember what they learned in their driving lessons Sutton and elsewhere and make sure they do not take unnecessary risks, people should be able to enjoy trouble-free driving.
