In 2011, jewellery designers showcased modern designs and chunky styles. In 2012, jewellery trends will be moving more towards classic pieces that have a timeless look and feel. However, some trends from 2011 will remain, like statement cocktail rings and vintage styles pieces. Here are the items that will be found in the jewellery shops in the New Year.
• Choker Necklaces
Choker necklaces are the must have items for 2012. The chokers that will be found in jewellers in 2012 are a world away from the velvet designs from the 1990s. These modern chokers consist of chunky gold chains and statement gemstones. They should be worn close to the neck to accentuate the neckline, and they look great with strapless or V-neck tops.
• Blues
Trends in gemstones are moving toward shades of blue. It doesn’t matter what stones are worn as long as they are in the blue spectrum. Jewellery with sapphire, lapis or topaz accents are perfect for this trend. Shoppers should choose pieces that contain shades of blue that complement their skin tone. To stay one step ahead of the trend, blue gems should be worn alongside green, purple or white stones.
• Crosses
Although cross necklaces have never gone out of style, they have been a little under the fashion radar in the last few years. In 2012, they will be back with a vengeance. When it comes to wearing crosses, there are no rules. They can be large, small, colourful, decorative or accented with gemstones. In the latest shows, designers have been layering crosses with a number of necklaces of different sizes and lengths.
• Charm Bracelets
The current trend for collectable charm bracelets will continue well into to 2012. To epitomise the trend, the bracelets should be made from a precious metal and layered on the wrist with other bangles.
