Consumers urged to use door locks

All homes around the UK feature locks. However, consumers sometimes forget or decline to make full use of door locks and this can lead to problems. With this in mind, police in Derbyshire have issued a reminder to residents to ensure their abodes are secure.

The massage came after a spate of 19 burglaries within a week in Ripley, Alfreton, Belper and surrounding areas.

To help combat such illegal activity, police have launched Operation Rocky, which is intended to tackle those involved in serious crime, including burglars and car thieves.

Assistance Inspector Richard Booth said: “This number of burglaries is very rare in the Amber Valley area and we will be using all available resources to tackle the issue. We are informing residents of these incidents in order to make sure they have the ability to upgrade their home security.

“As well as ensuring doors and windows are secured, residents should also make sure that side and garden gates are locked.”

These days, consumers have a wide range of locks to choose from to help them bolster security and to provide them with greater peace of mind. In general, criminals break into homes they consider to be easy targets and so the presence of effective window and door locks can be hugely important.

Of course, there are other measures that people can adopt too, including purchasing security lights and indoor lights that have timers on them and can that help to create the illusion that individuals are in even when properties are empty.

About these provisions, Mr Booth remarked: “At this time of year, when it gets dark quite early, having a light on in your home can be invaluable to protecting your home.”

Meanwhile, under Operation Rocky, police officers and community support officers increased their patrols in the area and they have been offering crime prevention advice to residents.
