Arranging gas connections

If you’ve just moved into or about to move into a property, you may have problems with your gas connections. Connections often don’t come cheap, and if you’re on a low income you may need to contact the Department of Work and Pensions if you live in the UK. They may be able to provide you with the sums you need to resolve the situation via the Social Fund. You could contact the relevant gas supplier as an initial step, allowing them to point you in the right direction, or you could get in touch with a gas transporter or distribution network operator directly. After they have completed the work, you’ll still need to get in touch with a gas supplier in order to set up a contract for your gas supply. Be prepared to pay an extra fee for gas connections if asking a supplier to help arrange a connection for you.

Choosing suppliers

You can contact a gas connections company via the phone, letter or by e-mail. You’ll need to tell them where you live, whether you are a domestic of business gas user and arrange a date with them to visit your property. Once the gas connections are in place, if you haven’t arranged one through a gas supplier, you’ll then need to choose a supplier from the wealth of choices available to you. As soon as the gas connections are in place, you’ll be eager to make use of them so you should ensure that you talk to a potential supplier as soon as possible and in order to get things up and running at the earliest opportunity.

Stay connected

A supplier will need to install a meter at your home too, in order for them to be able to bill you accurately. Although gas connections can be expensive, this is usually a one-off payment that you won’t need to worry about again. The fee you pay should not differ from the rate you’re quoted. If you are charged more than the rate laid out previously, you may be able to dispute the fee. In order for you to get the most out of your home, particularly in the winter months, it’s important that gas connections are put in place as soon as possible.
