According to the expert, her dealings with students provided her with insights into the varying levels and types of guidance and inspiration professionals require.

She remarked: “I’ve learned over the years that in order to become a better manager you have to recognise that not one leadership style is right. Whether it’s coaching, counselling, influencing, I find myself using that toolkit of skills each and every day.”

It is absolutely crucial that individuals in management roles are able to motivate and nurture their employees and peers. Of course, not all such people have experience of teaching and most will not enter this profession as a means of improving their skill sets.

However, thanks to the superb business coaching and management training opportunities that now exist, they can boost their abilities in other ways.

Meanwhile, Ms Calabrese also noted that being a woman may have helped her during her career. She said: “Sitting on a board of men, I think they appreciate a woman’s perspective.”

The Financial Times points out that the business expert belongs to The Committee of 200, which is a worldwide organisation that was established to enable successful businesswomen to advance their leadership skills, as well as to offer support and networking opportunities.
